So I got on the train today and sat down beside some girl. After about 10 minutes of the wifi not working, and the guy across the aisle having the same problem, and one of the Via staff restarting the modem, and having looked over the train safety pamphlet, I turn to Brigette and introduce myself. She goes to McGill, she's in a science class, she's on the rowing team—WHAT?
"You know my sister then, Jennifer Jones."
"KJ!"
"Wha?"
"Keener Jenny!"
I can't even leave a city without someone knowing my sister.
Brigette and I talked through most of the trip with few lulls. She seems like a really nice person. Jenn said she's probably the best person from her McGill team I could have met, as the rest are really ditsy.
My tattoo has started scabbing. It's crazy, the scabs are just flakes of red skin!
I showed my family one by one. Jenn and Simon thought it was great. Dad said I could have just worn a red elastic. Mom was mom and did that, disapproving "awwwwngh" sound and then soon got over it. I explained what it meant to my parents and I think that made it better for them.
Union Station is a mess. It is so crowded and busy and the layout is just a disaster. I wasn't paying much attention to the wayfinding design as I was just following my uncle through it, and making sure his parents were still following us. I'll be back there on Sunday, on my own, so I'll get to, or rather need to pay more attention then.
I would like to go to Johnny Banana, as per Rhys' suggestion, for some burritos, to Kensington Market to wander around, and maybe to the ROM to check out the terracotta soldiers.
Jenn, Simon, and I went to the pool and gym at this hotel, a Courtyard Marriott. They're side by side, surrounded by glass walls. Neither is terribly impressive. The pool was pretty warm and smelled disgustingly of chlorine.
I ran for ten minutes on the treadmill and had enough, then channel surfed on the gym's TV. Nothing good on.
My parents are sharing one queen sized bed, Simon and Jenn have the other, and I'm on a fold-out easy-chair-turned-cot. I just barely fit, and only have room to lie flat. The alternative was to share a room with my aunt and uncle but that would just be way too awkward.
Dad snores like a beast. Simon squirms like a fish.
